Is the New York Times Spelling Bee Free

No, you will have to subscribe, but it’s worth it. Here’s why.

You can check out New York Times Spelling Bee anytime without a New York Times account. Go ahead, click, and check out today’s puzzle. You can even enter a few words. However, once you get a few more words you are given the sad option of “Quit” (never!) or “Subscribe.”

Why is it worth it? It’s a nice little mental exercise every day. Remind yourself of words you forget you knew already, and almost daily, find new words you didn’t know exist.

When you subscribe, you can also get access to the New York Times crosswords, which is one of my favorite things to do each day. I feel play spelling bee helps me with crosswords, because I get familiar with lots of four-letter words which oftne show up inside of my crossword-ease.

Of course, you could always do the puzzle on your own. So, in conclusion, getting the NYT Spelling Bee puzzle is free. Getting the solutions and auto-calculated for you, is not free.
